Bilvashtakam is an eight-verse devotional hymn dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva with Bilva Patra (bili or bhel leaves). The sacred Bilva leaf is believed to symbolize the three eyes of Lord Shiva as well as the three gunas—sattva, rajas, and tamas. Offering Bilva leaves to Shiva represents the devotee’s complete surrender of body, mind, and soul to the Lord.

ത്രിദലം ത്രിഗുണാകാരം ത്രിനെത്രം ച ത്രിയായുധം,
ത്രിജന്മ പാപസംഹാരം ഏകബിൽവം ശിവാർപ്പണം ॥೧॥
ത്രിശാഖൈ ബിൽവപത്രൈശ്ച ഹ്യജ്ഞം പുണ്യം ഭവേദ് നൃണം,
അനേകജന്മ സാമ്രാജ്യം ഏകബിൽവം ശിവാർപ്പണം ॥೨॥
അഖണ്ഡ ബിൽവപത്രൈശ്ച പൂജിതേ നന്ദികേശ്വരേ,
