Ashtadasa Shakti Peetha Stotram is a sacred hymn that mentions 18 Shakti peethas and the names of the goddesses worshipped there. It was composed by Sri Adi Shankaracharya. Ashtadasa literally means eighteen. Ashtadasa Shakti peethas are the 18 sacred places in the Indian subcontinent where Goddess Shakti/Parvati/Gowri is worshipped. After Sati died by jumping into the fire during the Daksha Yajna, Lord Shiva became furious and killed Daksha. He leaves the place, carrying Sati’s dead body, and starts to wander in a deep state of disenchantment. To get back Lord Shiva to his normal state of being, Lord Vishnu released Sudarshana chakra which dismembered Sati’s dead body into 18 pieces, which fell in 18 different places in the subcontinent. These 18 places are the 18 Shakti Peethas or Ashtadasa Shakti Peethas, where Goddess Parvathi is worshipped in different forms. ಲಂಕಾಯಾಂ ಶಾಂಕರೀದೇವೀ ಕಾಮಾಕ್ಷೀ ಕಾಂಚಿಕಾಪುರೇ |
ಪ್ರದ್ಯುಮ್ನೇ ಶೃಂಖಳಾದೇವೀ ಚಾಮುಂಡೀ ಕ್ರೌಂಚಪಟ್ಟಣೇ || 1 ||

ಅಲಂಪುರೇ ಜೋಗುಲಾಂಬಾ ಶ್ರೀಶೈಲೇ ಭ್ರಮರಾಂಬಿಕಾ |
