Maa Shailputri is the para shakti, who was born as the daughter of the Lord of the Himalayas. In Sanskrit, “Shaila” means ‘Mountain’, and ‘Putri’ means ‘Daughter’. After the self-immolation of Sati during the Daksha Yagna, she is born again as Goddess Parvathi or Shailputri Devi and marries Lord Shiva. Shailputri Maa is worshipped on the first day of Asahada Navratri or Gupt Navaratri. She is depicted as riding a bull with Trishul in one hand, a lotus in the other, and a crescent moon on her forehead. Her other names are Parvathi, Hemavathi, and Vrisharudha (as she mounts a bull). शैलपुत्री माँ बैल असवार।
