Story of Queen Veeravati
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess named Veeravati. She was the only sister among seven loving brothers. After getting married, she returned to her parental home to observe her first Karwa Chauth fast.
Veeravati kept a strict fast — no food, not even water — from sunrise. As the day passed, she grew weak and fainted by evening.
Seeing her condition, her brothers became worried. They couldn’t see their sister suffer, so they made a clever plan. They went behind a tree, lit a fire, and placed a mirror so it looked like the moon had risen.
Veeravati believed them and broke her fast. But as soon as she ate, she got the terrible news that her husband had died.
Heartbroken, she cried and prayed with all her heart. Her devotion pleased Goddess Parvati, who appeared and blessed her. She was told to observe the fast again with full faith, and soon, her husband came back to life.
Story of Karwa and the Crocodile
There was once a devoted wife named Karwa. One day, her husband went to bathe in the river, and a crocodile caught him.
Karwa rushed to save him. She tied the crocodile with cotton thread and prayed to Lord Yama (the god of death) to save her husband and punish the crocodile.
When Yamraj refused, Karwa, full of courage, threatened to curse him using the power of her love and devotion. Yamraj, afraid of her strong will, agreed to her wishes. He sent the crocodile to hell and gave her husband a long life.
Story of Savitri and Satyavan
There was a noble woman named Savitri, who was married to a kind man named Satyavan. But Satyavan was destined to die within a year.
On the day he died, Yamraj came to take his soul. Savitri followed him and pleaded for her husband’s life.
Impressed by her devotion, Yamraj offered her three boons, except bringing her husband back.
Savitri used the first two boons wisely. For the third, she asked to be the mother of Satyavan’s children. Yamraj realized his mistake — how could she have children if her husband was dead?
Pleased by her intelligence and love, Yamraj returned Satyavan’s life.
