Maha Vallabha Ganapati Devasthanam or popularly known as Ganesh Temple Flushing claims to be the very first authentic Hindu Temple in North America built with traditional granite stones imported from India. It is one of the most prominent temples in the Newyork Metropolitan area or NYC. It is located at 45–57 Bowne Street, Flushing, Queens, in New York City. History of Ganesh Temple Flushing, Queens, Newyork 

Ganesh Temple in Flushing, NYC is built and currently managed by The Hindu Temple Society of North America (“Society”), a non-profit religious institution. The land where the present temple is located is acquired from a non-functioning Russian Orthodox Church in the early 1970’s.  Soon, in a small frame house, daily rituals were performed and weekend services were conducted by volunteer priests until the present structure was completed in 1977. The present temple was built according to the Agama shastra principles (ancient scriptures relating to temple building), and the Temple was consecrated on July 4, 1977 – coinciding with the US Independence Day. Sri Pandrimalai Swamigal, a great Siddha from Madras, had prepared twenty-six yantras for the temple and done poojas for them for five years before these blessed yantras were installed on July 4, 1977, as part of the temple consecration ceremony.

Lord Ganesha is the presiding deity of the Flushing temple. The other deities in the temple complex are Lord Shiva and Parvati, Venkateshwara, Shanmukha and Valli, Devasana, Mahalaxmi, and Navgrahas.

Flushing Temple Canteen or Ganesh Temple Canteen

Flushing Temple canteen was started in 1993 mainly to prepare “Naivedyam” (food offering) for the deities in the temple. Later the canteen started to serve food for the devotees as well. The temple canteen serves traditional Vegetarian South Indian food items such as idli, dosa, sambar, Pongal, Upma, and sweets and snacks such as Laddu, Boondi, Poha, Mysorepak, etc. Over a hundred Indian vegetarian food items and snacks are now available at the canteen throughout the year. The canteen also caters to events, weddings, and functions in the community center and other locations in the tri-state area. Further, the Temple canteen ships fresh and delicious South Indian snacks to customers throughout the USA.

Ganesh Temple Flushing Community Center

The community center was operational since June 1998. It is one of the largest community centers in Flushing. It has are three floors, the first floor is wedding hall and can be divided into two by the soundproof partitions so that two functions can be performed at the same time. The second floor is an auditorium that can host up to 700 people. The third floor has a large kitchen and dining hall. Many cultural programs events and weddings take place in this community center every year.
