Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akha Teej, holds a special place in the hearts of Hindus around the world. Hence, Akshaya Tritiya is considered an auspicious time for new beginnings, investments, and endeavors, as the benefits are believed to grow and never diminish.

Significance of Akshaya Tritiya:

The significance of Akshaya Tritiya is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology and scriptures. According to ancient texts, it is believed that on this day, the Satya Yuga, the golden age of truth and righteousness, transitioned into the Treta Yuga. This transition symbolizes a fresh start, making Akshaya Tritiya a Yugadi Tithi, or a new year day in Hindu tradition.

As per Hindu Calendar, Akshaya Tritiya is observed every year on Shukla Paksha Tritiya (3rd day) of Vaishakha (2nd month) masa. This year Vaisakha month started on 8th May. So, Akshaya Tritiya 2024 date is 10th May.

Akshaya Tritiya Rituals and Traditions:

Worship of Lakshminarayana:

Lakshmi Narayana, who is a form of Lord Vishnu along with his consort Goddess Lakshmi, is primarily worshipped on Akshaya Tritiya. However, in general Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi are worshipped on this auspicious day. Special rituals and prayers are conducted to seek their blessings for abundance, prosperity, and well-being. Many devotees observe a day-long fast and perform puja rituals with flowers, incense, and offerings.

Akshaya Tritiya is widely celebrated as an auspicious day for buying gold, jewelry, or making investments. It is believed that purchasing gold or making investments on this day brings wealth and prosperity throughout the year. Many people also initiate new business ventures or make significant purchases, such as property or vehicles, on Akshaya Tritiya.

Ritual Bathing and Charity:

A significant tradition observed on Akshaya Tritiya is taking a holy bath in sacred rivers or water bodies. Devotees believe that bathing in holy waters on this day purifies the soul and washes away sins. Additionally, offering charity, feeding the needy, and performing acts of kindness are considered highly meritorious on Akshaya Tritiya.
